The SAMC is a solar-powered device that collects tiny plastic particles from the air. The solar panel on top of the SAMC charges the battery that provides both positive and negative electrical currents to the wire meshes. Carried by the wind, the tiny plastic particles get attracted to the outer, negatively charged wire mesh. On it, the particles become negatively charged and as such are attracted to the positively charged, inner wire mesh. When this happens the plastic particles become trapped inside the SAMC. Then, the seal is pulled up and the electricity is turned off. The trapped plastic particles are sucked down into the container, which is then sealed. The now clean air blows out the other side of the SAMC.
